Halftime.

That is enterprise risk management. I have lived it.

‹ About

Creighton and St. John’s, Big East quarterfinals. The teams went to the locker room and did not come back. I was at the NCAA National Office, as Managing Director of Enterprise Risk Management.

In the days that followed, every assumption underneath the contingency plan was live at once. The championship. The membership distribution. The reserves. The business continuity. The plans nobody had ever needed.

A year later the championships were played. Not because the risk had gone, but because the conditions had been defined, the owners named and the thresholds agreed before anyone had to decide.
